Corporate computer recycling programs

A number of corporations have recycling programs for computers and related equipment, cell phones, printer cartridges, rechargeable batteries and other items. Participation is either free or requires a reasonable fee.

Apple Computer Company

Apple participates in recycling programs worldwide. Visit their website for information about how to recycle your Apple equipment in the US and Canada, Europe, Taiwan, and Japan.

Canon Consumer Products Recycling Program

The following types of Canon consumer products are eligible under the program: Binoculars, Camcorders, Cameras (digital/film), Fax Machines, ImageCLASS Products, PC Copiers, Printers, Projectors/Video Equipment, and Scanners. To determine if a particular model is eligible, visit the web page and click the "recycle now" button.

Dell Computer Company

Goodwill Industries and Dell, Inc. have partnered to create RECONNECT, a computer recycling and reuse program. Older, obsolete computers are taken apart (or "demanufactured") by Goodwill workers. The parts are then sorted and recycled responsibly. Newer, working computers are refurbished and resold with the proceeds funneling back into workers' wages.

Dell also offers a free recycling program for home computers and printers to consumer customers. They have partnered with the National Cristina Foundation to help disabled and economically disadvantaged children and adults across Canada get the gift of technology. Donors may receive a potential tax deduction and a special offer from Dell.

HP - Recycling

HP recycling services provides an easy way to recycle computer equipment, printing supplies, rechargeable batteries and other items.

Sony

Sony Corporation has expanded its recycling program with 75 drop-off centers in the US and plans to double the number of locations within a year. The centers will accept any Sony or Sony Ericsson-branded gadgets for free, and other brands for a fee.

Staples. Inc.

Staples offers recycling services for a broad range of products, including computers and office technology products, ink and toner catridges, and cell phones and rechargeable batteries.
