Jacksonville

The Onslow County Partnership for Children is a private non-profit agency whose mission is to develop and advocate for programs that optimize young children's emotional, intellectual and physical readiness for school.

We have an in-house program, Reaching Our Communities (ROC,) that does grassroots community outreach in isolated areas in the county. Many families are also English Language Learners.

We are requesting donations of lap top computers that can be lent out to families with educational software supplied by us. Over the summer, ROC social workers will go into homes with laptops, demonstrate the use of educational programs and monitor families' progress. We anticipate that by assisting children with English and other subjects over the summer, they will be better prepared to enter or return to school.

Can you help us with this? We are working against the clock as school lets out June 10. Thank you for considering us. Together we build brighter futures for our children.

Big Brothers Big Sisters Services, Inc. of Davie County - Seeking a Pentium Four or greater Laptop computer with at least 80 GB of hard drive space.

Chuck Taylor, Davie County Coordinator, writes: Our office is the only 100% self-supporting BBBS satellite office in North Carolina. We seek to match children from single parent, absent parent, or other than parent homes with qualified trained mentors to help these children reach their full potential. We provide "site-based" matches at the YMCA after school program at the 6 county elementary schools. In this program high school volunteers visit their "little" at the school for at least one hour each week for the school year.

As the case worker I must visit these sites and copy records of attendance, what occurred during the visits, and make notes for follow-up calls, future matches, and terminating failing matches. Our core program follows a similar protocol but we match adults with children in the ocal community. At these matches a considerable amount of forms must be completed by the mentor, parent, and child for follow up supervision and success measures. All matches are conducted outside our office. Currently we work with over 100 children and 100 mentors, in a county of 40,000 people. In order to reduce paper costs, time spent writing notes (versus typing), and to better secure confidential data, we need a laptop computer to carry to the sites for our records. This computer would be used as the primary office computer, for all in house computer needs and site supervision. The current primary (desktop) computer would be given to our part-time staff member to replace her quickly failing desktop computer. Any help in this regard would be greatly appreciated. Please accept our gratitude in advance. If you can help, please email Mr. Taylor, Phone: (336) 751-9906 or Fax: (336) 751-99076
