Rain for the Sahel and Sahara (RAIN) - RAIN's mission is designing long-term solutions for food security, improved livelihoods and increased literacy to promote a sustainable and vital nomadic society in Niger, West Africa - the world's poorest country. RAIN's other activities include developing community gardens and other enterprises through which parents help support school, encouraging girls' education and teaching parents and children about AIDS and health.

We have 3 offices in Niger currently in Agadez, Niamey and Arlit. At present we have 1 computer total in Niger for 2-3 employees working at each office (which makes most of these employees travel to internet cafÈ's for access to a computer). The ratio of computers to employees is definitely low and our ability to function efficiently in an administrative sense is low as well. These computers will help with the communication between our administrative office in the United States and our program staff in Niger. They will allow us to spend more time focusing on our programs rather than the administrative tasks and will lessen the burden associated with the lack of technology in Niger.

Seeking laptop computers, either Penitum four (or better) PCs or G4/G5 Macs. If you can help, please email Bethany Wieczorek or phone 603-371-0676

Rain for the Sahel and Sahara, a US 501c-3 organization, works with nomadic peoples in Niger, West Africa. Our staff in Niger is all local people -- we are part of the community and develop ground up programs through which parents support their children's schools. Drip-irrigated school gardens are managed by parents and support food for the children, who live at the schools while their parents move with their herds of animals in search of pasture. Women's artisan cooperatives, grain-grinding cooperatives, general stores and other community businesses receive equipment and business training from RAIN and, in turn, give 1/2 their profits to support their schools. We are community-based, administration light and passion heavy.

We are seeking pc laptops (Pentium 4 or 5) and one G4 or G5 Mac laptop. If you can help, please email or phone 603-371-0676 (Mondays - Wednesday) Note: this organization is seeking donations within New Hampshire - no shipping should be involved.
