Milky Way Community and Youth Centre Inc. - Melva Denson writes: Milky Way is a unique mission that focuses on the empowering youth in the areas of health targeting Obesity and Juvenile Diabetes. A unique group physical fitness activity is enjoyed by the participants. Character Building Sessions, College and Career exploration is provided to youth in underserved areas of Houston, Texas. Yes!!! The participants have fun as they are empowered to believe "I will achieve..." The opportunity for the youth to believe they can achieve success encourages them to complete school and become healthy, positive and active citizens to their community's. The computers will allow the participants to access programs to improve their reading skills, job/college searches and much more. We look forward to working with supporters of this mission. Project LIFT Houston offers free treatment for men and women within the ex-offender and homeless community, addressing behavioral disorders and providing mental health counseling. In turn helping clients maintain a sober lifestyle that is free from alcohol and drugs and other addictions. Providing effective, free, long term, live-in and out patient rehabilitation and counseling programs to men and women of all ages, races and backgrounds who are affected by ex-incarceration challenges, homelessness, alcohol, and substance abuse. Provide crisis intervention to individuals and their families, allowing them to deal with domestic violence issues that in turn create homelessness when a man, woman or child is forced to leave their home.
Guests will live on site and will be offered a structured daily schedule. Any computer donation will be utilized to set up a center enabling clients to gain access to the tools, education and resources necessary to prevent chronic or repeat homelessness, providing men, youth, women and children with services that help them accomplish long term stability. To assist and train men and women with vocational abilities which are necessary in order to enter the workforce. To bring awareness to the community about the issues homeless men and women face today.
