Schools seeking donations in Florida

Fort Meyers

Maimonides Hebrew Day School - Four years ago, our school was started by three mothers who had a vision that education could be different, that the needs of every child could be addressed if the motivation to provide it was great enough.

Our goal is to unveil and reveal the potential in each child, fostering the child's inner aspirations, viewing him or her as a complete being, with endless potential. As our students have gotten older, the need to enrich their education with technology has become more critical, as using technology is not only exciting and engaging for students, but it allows more opportunitites to expose students to resources not available in our normal classroom teaching materials.

We rely heavily on generous donations not only for teaching materials, but also to supplement tuition costs for a large number of our students who can not afford the full cost of tuition. Our school would never be able to afford the luxury of computers for our students, but the use they would put them to, and the wealth of knowledge, practical and functional learning, and joy the students would gain from having access to computer resources could make an enormous difference in their overall education. We currently have 40 students in the entire school, and have the hope of setting up a computer lab with a minimum of 4-6 computers that can be used by all to enhance their education.

We are seeking Pentium four (or better) PCs. If you can help, please email Ms. Anderson or phone 239-878-9432

Maniscalco Elementary

Ms. Takacs writes: Technology has become a necessity in our society. We are at a point in which even our textbooks are available online. Currently, I only have textbooks for every two to three children in my room, but our new textbook series offers available online access to the textbook as well as tutorials online for the students to use to help them obtain content knowledge. Using technology is exciting for students and allows greater opportunitites to expose students to resources not available in the classroom textbooks. It saddens me to see the advantages that students have in the more affluent neighborhoods, when my students deserve the same resources. I was excited for some schools when I heard that they were blessed with laptops for each of their fifth graders, but sad at the same time for my students. Our school would never be able to afford such luxuries for our students, but the advantages my students would gather from computer resources could make the difference in who they become. They would be given equal opportunity to obtain skills that could make all the difference in their future. It is my goal to offer my students opportunities to compete with peers regardless of their personal socio-economic status.
