Schools seeking donations in Massachusetts

Fitchburg

Memorial Middle School - Principal Fran Thomas, Jr. writes: We have approximately 650 students, one computer lab with about 20 older computers in it, and about a dozen more in the library. Some are so old that donated or demo s/w will not run. We are about 65% Free/Reduced lunch, and we desperately need additional computers in the hopes of a) equipping each classroom with at least two working computers and a printer; b) expanding our existing labs; and c) building a Science/Technology/Engineering/Manufacturing Lab. My total discretionary budget is under $60K, and I will not be able to do this, buy text, pay for afterschool and intramural programs, copiers, etc. without donations. We are one of the urban schools where students, parents and faculty DO care! We reduced our failure rate on Math from the high 50% to low teens on state exams, but we need at least a fighting chance to get every child to proficient.

We are looking primarily for PCs, but obviously could use printers and/or digital projectors--anything current will be better than most of what we have, and warmly welcomed and greatly appreciated! If you can help, please email Ms. Thomas or phone 978-345-3295. Postal mail address is: Ms. Thomas, Principal, Memorial Middle School, 615 Rollstone Street, Fitchburg, MA 01420 FAX:978-343-2121.

Tenney Grammar School - Sarah Calla, Engineering Teacher, Grades 5-8, writes: I work in an Engineering Computer Lab and was fortunate to receive a donation to update my Windows 98 computers to Pentium IIIs and better. I am grateful for the donation. I would like to thank the donors again for the generosity they showed towards my school and my community. The district also purchased additional computers to match the donation in the other schools. Each school services 720 students in grades 5 - 8. I am currently seeking a donation for the four grammar schools in my district. I am looking for four SmartBoards with four projectors that would be dedicated to the Engineering Classrooms. I would like my students to be able to present the materials they are learning in a technologically updated way. I would also like to teach my students computer skills that they can see me teaching. The students utilize the design process including the presentation phase. Please email Ms. Calla or write: Sarah Calla, Timony Grammar School, 45 Pleasantview Street, Methuen, MA 01844.
