Schools seeking donations in Mississippi

Coldwater High School - seeking Pentium 4 PCs capable of running Windows XP

Linda Goodwin, Career Center Director, writes: My lab is used by over 225 students in grades 9-12, to do career related projects, ACT practice testing, resume writing and career /college research. Our school has over 85% of its students in a minority group and most of the students are on the free /reduced lunch program. The computers in the lab are very old, slow and breakdown often. The school district cannot afford to replace them and they are too old to keep repairing. At the present time, only 8 of the 17 lab computers are working. The students need new or updated computers, to be able to compete in the world of work. E-mail Ms. Goodwin or call 662-622-5649

Mount Olive Elementary - Ms. Joan Easterling, writes: I am a special educator at a rural school. This school is located in a low-economic, Hurricane Katrina affected area with 89% of the student body receiving free or reduced school lunches. There are 70 black students, 29 white, and 1 Hispanic. I serve approximately 15 students in a fully inclusive setting. Funding is limited which impedes the purchase of technological resources. Technology is extremely important in ensuring the success of these particular students and would promote an optimal learning environment if available. Unfortunately, resources of this magnitude are a virtual impossibility and well beyond our grasp. For this reason I am seeking donations of 10 lap top computers to be used by my students as educational tools during their yearly studies. I prefer that these computers hold wireless internet capabilities and can run most of the current educational software available.

If you can help, please email Ms. Easterling, or phone 601-797-3159
