Oklahoma schools seeking computer donations

Copan

Copan Public Schools - Tammy Shepherd, Copan Elementary and Middle School Principal, writes: Our school is located in rural Oklahoma with a population of students who have limited or non-existent access to technology. Our current computer lab is made up entirely of hand-me-down computers from a nearby tech school that were being replaced because they were outdated. With the help of a contracted tech person, the computers have been salvaged and pieced together to provide a working computer lab. Unfortunately, during this past school year, most have become permanantly unusable and are unfixable. In order for our student to gain the technological expertise needed to survive in today's world, we desperately need to replace our 20 station lab. Our goal is to develop technologically proficient students through a variety of authentic experiences utilizing a variety of technology, starting with computers. We will also utilize computer technology as a means to reinforce standards based learning.

Seeking 20 desktop or laptop computers (Pentium IV, or better), digital cameras, and digital video cameras. If you can help, please email Ms. Shepherd or phone 918-532-4344 x231

Tulsa Memorial High School Ms. Pomerantz (Michele Sterling), AP Language & Composition and Senior English teacher, writes: Our school is in need of all types of technology. We are the biggest school in the Tulsa Public district and as part of an urban school district, we rarely have the funds necessary to introduce technology into our curriculum. We have text books that have online tools and power point presentations but we are unable to use them because we don't have the technology necessary to play them! We are struggling to insure that our racially diverse and economically blended student population has access to the technology and learning material that will make them useful citizens and successful students. We are struggling to raise our students' standardized test scores. However, without both the tools and the technology needed to make use of them, we are left with little hope. We have a dedicated staff and high standards for our students. Now, we just need the tools necessary to fulfill them. We would appreciate your help.
